Grand Seiko is known for making lovely watches, and the brand's classic 44GS case is one of its most popular designs. For 2023, Grand Seiko has added two new time-only watches to its Heritage Collection that feature this iconic case: the SBGW297 and SBGW299.
Both models feature a 36.5mm stainless steel case with a box-shaped sapphire crystal and a solid screw-down caseback. They are also both water resistant to 100 meters.
The main difference between the two models is the dial color. The SBGW297 has a crisp white dial, while the SBGW299 has a dark blue dial. Both dials feature a dramatic radial sunray texture with applied multi-faced baton hour markers and a small printed minute track along the perimeter.
Powering both watches is Grand Seiko's Caliber 9S64 manual-wind movement. This movement is hand-assembled in Japan and features a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
The SBGW297 and SBGW299 are both fitted on a solid-link stainless steel bracelet with a triple folding clasp and a push-button release.
Both models are priced at $5,400 USD.
Why These Watches Are Worth Considering
The SBGW297 and SBGW299 are excellent watches for a number of reasons. First, they feature classic Grand Seiko design with the iconic 44GS case. Second, they are powered by the brand's Caliber 9S64 movement, which is one of the most accurate and reliable on the market. Third, they are both very well-priced, especially when compared to other Grand Seiko models.
