The Rolex Daytona Panda holds a significant role in determining luxury watch prices, acting as a distinctive gauge in the industry.
Being a PGA champion is already an extraordinary feat, but adorning oneself with one of the most desirable Rolex watches in the world elevates the celebration to a whole new level. According to a renowned watch expert, the timepiece worn by PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka serves as an influential indicator for the broader watch market.
This particular watch is none other than the remarkable Rolex Daytona 116500, commonly referred to as the "Panda" due to its striking contrasted dial and chronograph sub-dials.
Paul Altieri, an expert associated with Rolex reseller Bob's Watches, affirms that this rare watch often foreshadows whether Rolex resale prices will surge or decline.
Fortuitously, there was only one unit of the Rolex Panda available on Bob's Watches' online platform as of Monday, and it swiftly sold for a staggering price of approximately $34,000.
Altieri recalls that last year, this model was fetching around $50,000 in the pre-owned market. However, prices gradually dwindled, eventually stabilizing at approximately $34,000.
Presently, they are gradually rebounding and currently hover around $34,000 to $35,000, indicating the enduring resilience of the market," notes Altieri.
Nevertheless, the market for pre-owned Rolex watches continues to intensify. Although the specific model worn by Koepka may not be readily available, one can still acquire a Rolex Daytona from the official watchmaker for an approximate retail price of $15,000.
Altieri emphasizes that the Rolex Daytona, in general, remains an aspiration for numerous Rolex enthusiasts.
"One of my cherished customers once said, 'Choose any Rolex model you desire, as long as it commences with 'Day' and concludes with 'Tona,'" shares Altieri.
Regarding Koepka's access to one of these exceptional timepieces, he holds the position of a Rolex ambassador, representing what Bob's Watches labels as the New Guard for this renowned watch manufacturer.
